Healthy & In Class

Nurse Katy, along with our entire staff, aims to keep students healthy and in class ready to learn! As health-related needs arise, students can request to see the nurse. Nurse Katy will work with the student to figure out the best next steps. We know that being in class is vital to learning and staying on track, so Nurse Katy seeks to have students remain at school unless they need to go home.

Communication

When students visit the nurse's office, Nurse Katy provides them with a communication slip. This paper provides the reason for the student's visit to the nurse, what care was given, and the plan of action. Students should take this form home to their parent/guardian. Nurse Katy will also reach out to parents/guardians via phone or email as needed.

Illness & Fever

Keep your child home when they are ill. If your student has a temperature of 100.4 or higher, keep them home until they are temperature free (without medication) for 24 hours.

Immunization Exclusion Days for the 2025-2026 School Year

Fall: October 20, 2025
Spring: March 23, 2026

All students attending Wichita Public Schools must be in compliance with the state of Kansas's current immunization laws and regulations. Any student who does not meet the State's requirements will NOT be allowed to attend school on or after October 22, 2024 until one of the following documents is provided to the school nurse:

1. Up to date immunization records
2. A scheduled plan to give shots needed signed by the physician
3. A signed medical or religious exemption according to the provisions of the law
